Ep. 23 - Radio ain't dead, starting a company with little kids (Metasode)
...and a bit of bitching about UX in modern cars

We’ve got quite a few new subscribers since our last newsletter, so I’ll bring some context to those of you who are new here.
Every other week in our even-numbered episodes, we interview some amazing guests from the world of podcasting and audio. On the odd weeks, we do “metasodes” — meta-episodes where Arnab and I chat about podcasting and ramble about all sort of stuff. Books, music, and software are our favorite tangential topics.
This particular metasode marks a new era for us.
June 1st, 2023 was my last day as a product manager at Google where I was responsible for the Maps API and SDKs. Arnab left his job as a Principal Engineer at Amazon last year.
It’s official — we are creating a company together and in this episode we’re starting to talk a bit about that. Going forward, we’ll use our metasodes to provide an update on how the business and product development is going, so, if you’re interested in our entrepreneurial journey, please subscribe 👇
Back to the topic of this episode.
Right off the bat we started with a tangent because Arnab’s computer was possessed by ghosts. The whole time we recorded this episode, we was fighting a rogue mouse cursor that was randomly moving on the screen. So we naturally digressed into the topic of showing the original Ghostbusters movie to a five-year-old (spoiler: a horrible idea).
My favorite segment of the episode starts at 18:31 where we talk about starting a company with little kids and the parenting/work balance in general. This topic is highly relevant to both of us and I think we’re touching on issues that will resonate with many listeners.
For most part, we talked about radio (spoiler: it ain’t dead yet, there’s $20B ad spend in local radio). We covered a few topics starting from the antiquated ratings system still in use by the industry and finishing with the unnecessary, unprogrammable, annoying radio station buttons in the otherwise modern, high-tech car (the bottom row of buttons in the picture).
